RL-relevant SVU question
Does anyone either know the exact wording or have the DVD so they can get me the exact wording of Elliot's whole speech about going to college, from "Sophomore Jinx"? As stupid as it sounds, and as much as it just confirms my parents' (not-incorrect) belief that I'm obsessed with SVU, I've found that his whole thought process and argument in that scene really perfectly mimics how I feel. And it's even weirdly more awesome, because I could spit out what he says and it would make perfect sense (well, except for the wife and baby part): I really do go to Queens College. At night. And don't feel at all like it's the same as going to "real" college.

On a somewhat-related note, does anyone know of any nontraditional (in any sense) colleges anywhere on the East Coast? I keep reading and hearing about Evergreen State College, and it looks super-awesome (and in fact my friend Sam is going there next year), but I don't really know that I want to go all the way across the country; I feel as though I'd be more comfortable staying East. I may change my mind on that though, if I fall more in love with Evergreen than with anywhere else.

*runs out of things to say*

Ok, that's it. You can all go back to your regularly-scheduled activities.

God, I love you. That was exactly the exchange I wanted. I've been using it as an argument when I try to explain the difference between going to QC as a part-time night student, and going away to "real" college. QC doesn't even have dorms. (And by the way, for the record, there's no apostrophe: it's "Queens College" because it's located in Queens, NY...as am I.) and yeah, Canada's an idea: I've always loved Toronto, and I have cousins (including one I almost never talk to, but get along great with) right outside of it (not too far from Barrie, Ontario, which amuses me to no end!).

(And no, I'm not rating schools by their sexual temperature--though I would if I thought Elliot would be at the hottest one! I'm rating them by how well I'd fit in there, considering that, to be honest, I don't really fit in ANYWHERE, outside of fandom and the internet.)

Speaking of you, and Canada, and colleges...am I really confused, or were you considering going to Pratt for grad school? *has trouble sometimes keeping track of her friends: she spent most of Eclecticon confusing Sarah and linny!* Because take it from someone who has seen the dorms, the dorms there are awesome. Some of the rooms are better than others, but they all have this awesome rooftop garden, with a view of the City (aka Manhattan), and are right near the campus and everything's right there...*gushes* I wanna live in the Pratt dorms. Not go there, necessarily, just live in the dorms. :-D

I'd tell you to come to South Conn and live with me, but fuck if I'm letting them put me in underclassmen dorms. Pfffttt. Then again, we could hang out. And it's only 73 miles from your grandma who could feed me! I mean, us.

Just try to find a place that fits you and forget the rest.

You're not doing math or engineering, right? Because the place I got my BS, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, though an engineering school, was oddly nurturing - much more so than high school (or grad school, but I guess that's not a surprise!) What really helped was that there was no such thing as failing a class - you just, essentially, didn't take it if you did poorly. Too many 'No Records' resulted in Bad Things Happening, but in general I think the lack of serious grade angst made things very pleasant.

I got a lot out of living on campus, or very close to campus.

Me? Math? Engineering?

*runs away screaming*

Thanks for the advice, though, and the grading system does sound cool. :-)

That's strange, I want you to live in the Pratt dorms too. Funny how that works.

In case anyone reading this is wondering what that was about, that would be John, currently of Pratt University, who wants me to live wherever he does at any one particular moment. Unfortunately, he likes cold weather, so the idea of him moving to someplace warm to get me to move there to is not going to happen. *pouts*

Name a place that is warm that isn't in a red state or southern california (hate that place) and maybe I'd consider it. Cold preserves, heat destroys. Besides, you know what heat does to me, you've seen what happens to me when I overheat and it's not pretty.

Proudly hailing from the frozen north,

Proudly hailing from the frozen north

You can't claim that! There are way too many Canadians on my flist for you to consider Boston the frozen north!

Now...define SoCal. Granted, I'm all for leaving L.A. *eg*, but what about San Diego? Or getting totally away from SoCal, what about Hawaii? *manages--barely--to refrain from saying anything about OWW*

Points on the you overheating thing, though. Maybe I should set you up with one of my (very few) other cold-loving friends. *runs*

YO Biotch
Hey New York

What the Fuck is going on? You need to read your e-mail. I really really need to know about my shirt. Because if the postal service lost it I need to file a complaint or something. I have renters insurance I wonder if it would be covered under that. I figure the value is probably close to $300 or more if you count the cost of each signature. Anyways like I said in the email if you didn't send it to Jenni that's ok I really won't be pissed at you. You was only going to get JR's signature and there is a good chance he will be in Vancouver. Guess I should check the Creation site to see if the guest list has been updated lately.

I finally got off my ass and decided to do a journal. Jay is starting to work on a real freaking website so I can post my con pics and of course my Zoe. I will have to send you some pictures soon she is getting so big. She is 8 1/2 mnonths old now.

Cathy

ps
I have some pictures of Richard from the UK get together. He is looking good :-) Let me know if you want me to send you a few. I am still severely bummed that I didn't get to go.
